In a lively exchange at CBS studios in New York, the moderators were forced to mute the microphones of both political candidates after repeated interruptions disrupted the debate. Amid the chaotic discussion, Vance forcefully interjected to elaborate on the status of Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio. He highlighted the use of the CBP One application, which allows individuals to apply for asylum or parole, critiquing it as too lenient and referring to it metaphorically as something magically facilitated by “a Kamala Harris open border wand.” Despite his efforts to clarify his stance, the moderators had to step in and silence the mics, a measure CBS had previously announced they would enforce to maintain order during the debate.
