The Miami Dolphins are moving forward with Tyler Huntley as their quarterback. Head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Huntley will start against the Patriots in Week 5, noting that Skylar Thompson’s recovery from injury has been slow.
“Tyler displayed some promising moments on tape,” McDaniel said. Although the Dolphins’ offense faltered with a 31-12 loss last Monday, Huntley threw for 96 yards on 14-of-22 attempts, ran for 40 yards, and scored a touchdown. The team has struggled offensively since Tua Tagovailoa’s Week 2 concussion, managing just 15 points over nine-plus quarters.
Tagovailoa, who suffered his fourth known concussion, is sidelined for at least two more weeks. Thompson, who replaced Tagovailoa but left a subsequent game with a rib injury, missed Monday night’s contest.
Huntley joined the Dolphins from the Ravens’ practice squad last month, where he played 19 games over three seasons. Tim Boyle, initially considered to start, will serve as Huntley’s backup.
