Candace Owens, a prominent conservative commentator, reported that YouTube temporarily suspended her account after an interview she conducted with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. In the contentious interview, Ye made claims suggesting that “Jewish people control the media,” which has since been deemed to violate YouTube’s hate speech policies. As a result, the platform also demonetized her channel, which boasts 2.4 million followers, citing a breach of their guidelines against content that assigns malicious characteristics to a protected group. Owens attributed the suspension to a campaign driven by “Zionists” who reported the video.
Formerly affiliated with the Daily Wire, Owens parted ways with the company following disagreements over antisemitism and Israel with co-founder Ben Shapiro. She expressed on X (formerly Twitter) her belief that her recent debate with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach on a Piers Morgan’s show contributed to what she sees as targeted actions against her. Owens states that this series of platform sanctions, including her full demonetization and a one-week upload ban, underscore a coordinated oppression against her viewpoints.
YouTube officially confirmed the suspension, elucidating that the removal from their Partner Program followed several policy violations. This move restricts her from monetizing content and comes with a stipulation that she can reapply after 90 days.
