A professional ballroom dancer has been busted for allegedly crashing into a motorcyclist — and then driving away with the bike still stuck to the front of her car, according to cops.
Rebekah Makenzie Tate, 23, was arrested late Wednesday, three days after John Powell, 34, was found with “life-threatening injuries” after being knocked off his bike early Sunday in West Melbourne, Florida, police said.
“Instead of remaining on scene or calling 911, Tate can be seen driving away with the motorcycle still attached to the front of her vehicle,” the West Melbourne Police Department said.
Surveillance footage then showed her pulling into a parking lot “in an attempt to hide” — and then trying to “remove the motorcycle from underneath her vehicle,” the department said.
The professional dancer — who is also a pianist and harpist — was then seen making a phone call before getting picked up by someone driving a black sedan, according to the report.
She was arrested as Powell remained in critical condition. “The force of the crash caused the motorcyclist’s helmet to come off, leaving him in the middle of the roadway with life-threatening injuries,” the police department said.
A Doordash driver out on a late-night delivery, Billy LeBlanc, helped to rescue the biker after seeing him lying limp in the middle of the road, FOX Orlando reported.
“I wouldn’t wish it on anybody, but I’m glad I was there and was able to help him,” the Good Samaritan told the outlet.
Tate has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and two counts of attempting to destroy evidence, according to court documents.
Her last Instagram posts have been flooded with commenters slamming the dancer after her arrest, with some angry users writing,” #scumoftheearth.”
Tate has pleaded not guilty to the crash at a hearing Thursday, where bond was set at $15,000 on one count and $2,500 on the other count, according to court filings.
