In a striking revelation, Donald Trump disclosed that he received gestures of support from tech titans Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos following a harrowing assassination attempt. Despite a history of tension and Trump’s ban from Facebook, Zuckerberg reportedly reached out to Trump, expressing unprecedented political support in the wake of the incident, hinting at a shift in his usual Democratic allegiance for the upcoming 2024 election. As per Trump’s account to New York magazine, Zuckerberg admired Trump’s resilience, stating he could never support the opposition after witnessing Trump’s response to the attack.

On July 13, during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, an assassination attempt on Trump nearly turned fatal. Amid the chaos, Trump, with blood streaking down his face and under tight Secret Service protection, showcased an undeterred spirit by encouraging his supporters to continue their fight. This act of valor seemingly caught the attention of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, who, despite owning the notably left-leaning Washington Post, commended Trump on his bravery during a personal phone call.

However, a spokesperson for Meta, Facebook’s parent company, clarified that Zuckerberg’s personal call does not imply his endorsement for Trump in the forthcoming election, maintaining that Zuckerberg has not publicly endorsed any candidate.

The encounter with Zuckerberg adds another layer to the complex relationship between Trump and the Facebook founder, who has recently admitted to bowing to Biden administration pressures on content censorship, particularly concerning COVID-19. This admission comes amidst lingering accusations from Trump, who has criticized Zuckerberg for perceived biases that ostensibly favored Biden during the 2020 elections. Despite these controversies, Trump’s narrative also highlights a moment of unexpected collegiality with Bezos, showcasing the unexpected and often private interactions between political and tech elites.
