In a tragic incident at Bali’s Angel’s Billabong, a popular yet perilous tourist spot known for its natural infinity pool, 59-year-old Nilesh Mukhi was fatally swept away by an unexpected massive wave. Mukhi was attempting to capture a photograph with his wife, Kavita, at the scenic location notorious for its dangerous conditions, particularly during a full moon when the waves are significantly rougher.
Despite warnings from their driver to move from the perilously close position to the cliff’s edge, a massive wave struck before they could react, tragically dragging Mukhi into the sea. While Kavita was quickly rescued with minor bruises, Nilesh Mukhi’s body was later recovered roughly 12 miles away in Nusa Dua after an extensive search involving local police and the Indonesian Navy.
This heartbreaking event marks yet another life lost at Angel’s Billabong, which has ominously been dubbed a “death trap” due to previous tourist fatalities under similar circumstances. The alluring beauty of its clear blue waters continues to draw visitors from around the globe, masking the inherent risks of its treacherous waves and rocky outcrops.
Mukhi, a father of two and a respected travel agent from Kolkata, India, leaves behind a grieving family and a stark reminder of nature’s unpredictable power. The community and fellow travelers mourn his loss as they reflect on the dangers that scenic spots can pose.
