In a sweeping aerial offensive, Ukrainian forces launched a massive drone attack targeting several areas across Russia, including the capital city, Moscow. This significant escalation marked one of the largest airborne assaults on Russian territory since the conflict erupted over two and a half years ago. Over 140 drones were deployed overnight, striking multiple regions and inflicting damage primarily around Moscow.

The attack had dire consequences for the suburban area of Ramenskoye, where two multistory residential buildings were hit, igniting fires and causing casualties. Local authorities reported one fatality and several injuries due to the strikes. Additionally, the vicinity saw precautionary evacuations in five neighboring buildings to handle the aftermath and clear drone debris safely.

Moscow’s defense systems were on high alert as they managed to down over a dozen UAVs attempting to penetrate the city perimeter. No injuries were reported from drone debris landing on a private residence on Moscow’s outskirts, showcasing the effectiveness of the city’s air defenses in mitigating further harm.

The severity of the situation led to significant disruptions, with three major airports located just outside Moscow—Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—temporarily halting operations. This resulted in the diversion of 48 flights, underlining the extensive impact of the drone strikes on both infrastructure and civil aviation.

This recent upsurge in drone-led hostilities follows another major attack at the start of the month, demonstrating a marked intensification in the aerial tactics used in this enduring conflict. Both incidents underscore the ongoing and complex dynamics of the Russia-Ukraine war, highlighting the increasing reliance on unmanned systems in contemporary warfare landscapes.
