The president of the International Olympic Committee has decided not to seek a third term.
Thomas Bach, a German lawyer and himself an Olympic gold medalist, revealed his decision at the end of the 142nd session of the International Olympic Committee.
Bach was the IOC’s ninth president, but told the committee it was time for a change at the top.
“New times are calling for new leaders,” Bach said Saturday, according to ESPN.
Bach assumed the office in September 2013. His term as president was due to expire in 2025.
Bach is a former foil fencer, and won gold during the 1976 Olympic games in Montréal.
