In a surprising turn of events, Krakow’s Mayor Aleksander Miszalski has canceled his planned meeting with New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams, set for next week at City Hall. This decision follows the unveiling of a federal indictment against Adams, who faces allegations of accepting bribes, including luxury air travel—a charge he vehemently denies.

Miszalski, who took office in May and governs over 750,000 residents, opted out of the discussion to avoid any association with the embattled Adams amidst the scandal. The meeting was intended to explore potential collaboration between Krakow and New York City to boost tourism and economic activities, leveraging their vibrant nightlife scenes and discussing a sister city agreement.

The now-cancelled sit-down was also to include representatives from LOT Polish Airlines, which has been expanding its operations and boasts a strong presence at JFK International Airport. LOT serves as a crucial link for New York’s substantial Polish community, particularly those from Krakow. Despite the backdrop of these discussions, LOT has clarified that their interactions with New York officials have been strictly professional, with no improper incentives offered.

Despite the cancellation and ongoing investigations, Adams remains active in his duties as mayor, asserting that his schedule continues to be filled with commitments involving both local and international figures eager to collaborate on various urban initiatives.
