Ranking PWHL team names and logos: Which of the six new combos is our No. 1?

We eagerly anticipated the PWHL nicknames and logos for over a year. Now, with the reveal of the Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montréal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge, and Toronto Sceptres, it’s time to rank them.

1. Montréal Victoire
Montréal Victoire stands out with its fresh, bilingual appeal and rich maroon color scheme. The logo, featuring a fleur-de-lis and a hidden "M," adds a unique touch, and the name itself plays homage to the city’s prominence in women’s hockey history.

2. Toronto Sceptres
Initially polarizing, the Toronto Sceptres name has grown on us, bolstered by a standout logo and a striking navy-light blue-gold color palette. The team’s unique mascot ties into Toronto’s iconic local culture.

3. New York Sirens
The New York Sirens offer a cohesive and dynamic package, combining an intriguing name with a vibrant teal color scheme that connects with other local women’s sports teams. While the logo could be more refined, it’s effective, especially for in-arena activations.

4. Boston Fleet
Boston Fleet features a sharp logo incorporating a fishhook "B" and subtle nods to the city’s maritime history. Although the name could be more inspiring, the overall presentation is solid and ties well into Boston’s rich sports landscape.

5. Minnesota Frost
Hindered somewhat by a less imaginative logo, Minnesota Frost still earns points for its creative name and unique purple color scheme, which resonates with the local climate and cultural references.

6. Ottawa Charge
With a red-yellow-white color scheme reminiscent of the Calgary Flames, Ottawa Charge feels a bit derivative. The naming and branding are competent, but it lacks the distinctiveness of some of the other teams.
